Popsicle People

23 04 2008

My son loves this easy project, and it gives him something to play with for a while, too!

You will need:

  • Popsicle sticks, any size
  • Markers

Good to have:

  • Googly eyes
  • Glue (hot glue works very well)
  • Embellishments (buttons, string, glitter, etc)
  • Felt/foam paper

The Project:

Seriously, we usually just draw a face on one end of the popsicle stick and then decorate the rest of it to look like a body.

Tips:

  • I usually leave a blank space at the bottom of the popsicle stick for the kids to hold on to, otherwise their hands turn colors from the markers.
  • Popsicle sticks come in all different shapes and sizes, and each one makes for a new, fun little friend.
  • You can cut out clothing, shoes, and even hair from felt and foam paper for them to dress-up their popsicle people rather than coloring them with markers if you have time.  (Pre-cut some while you are watching TV one night, and keep them in a little baggie.)
  • Yarn and string make cute wigs!  Little bows and bowties are adorable!  Really, the sky is the limit!
  • Googly eyes are almost a must have, but I like to attach them with hot glue, and not everyone has it on hand at all times.  (You can’t really keep a hot glue gun in the diaper bag, right?!)  You could attach eyes on a few popsicle sticks before hand and keep them around just in case you need a super quick project to entertain the kids.
  • Toss a few popsicle sticks (with eyes or without) and markers in a zipper bag and keep it in the diaper bag as an easy project on the go.  Add in some double sided sticky tape and a few pre-cut clothing items, and you have a great little distraction for the kids while you’re in line or waiting for food while you’re out!
