Who didn’t play fun games like Red Light, Green Light and Freeze Dance as kids?! Games like these are perfect for all ages!
You will need:
- Construction paper (red and green)
- Markers
- Glue (or tape)
- Scissors
Good to have:
- Clear contact paper
The Project:
We used a half sheet of red construction paper and a half sheet of green. We wrote “stop” on the red sheet and “go” on the green sheet, then attached them back-to-back with a little glue. Since I knew little kids would be using them, I covered ours with clear contact paper to laminate them and hopefully make them last longer!
Tips:
- Let the kids decorate the red side with a hand and the green side with a person walking like on a crosswalk sign.
- If you are covering your sign with contact paper, leave a little room on the edges to give it just a little bit of water (or juice and milk and sticky hand) resistance and to make them easier to clean.
- Do smaller versions, maybe 3”x5”, and attach them to popsicle sticks for the kids to twirl easily back and forth. (One this size would easily fit in a diaper bag, too!)
- Get creative with what games you play with this prop. Practice walking across the street. Walk laps around the room to burn off extra energy. Help them learn directions by calling a new direction (left, right, forward, backward) each time you have them stop; anyone who goes the wrong direction when they go has to sit down. Have them do some activity (hop, spin, touch your toes) when you say go. Make up a new game each time you play! You’ll be surprised how quick they catch on and start developing their own games, too!
