Magnets are great for entertaining kids, but the only place we have in our house for the kids to play with magnets is on the fridge, so I set out to find another solution and accidentally came up with a great multipurpose tray that can be used around the house or in the car!
You will need:
- An old cookie sheet
- Paint (I used spray paints and acrylic)
- Paintbrushes
Good to have:
- Decorative paper (such as scrapbook paper)
- Modge Podge
The Project:
I lightly sanded and spray painted an old, lightweight cookie sheet. Decorate it however you would like. Paint names, shapes, patterns, or pictures on it. When it looks the way you’d like, let it dry and it’s done!
Tips:
- I bought three brand-new cookie sheets at Wal-Mart for under three dollars. I didn’t even need to sand them! Lightwieght is key, so cheap cookie sheets work really well!
- You could decoupage some decorative paper (the kind you use for scrapbooking would be great) or pictures and then cover the whole thing in Modge Podge to seal it.
- If you keep this in the car, it makes a great writing and coloring surface. The edges will help keep the kids’ coloring supplies from rolling off.
- Make up some magnet games and store the pieces on the back of the cookie sheet, grouped in a plastic zipper bag. (Be on the lookout; now we’ll have to make up a few magnet projects!)
- We keep a pencil box of art supplies (crayons, mini coloring books, stickers, etc) in the backseat of the car. Our new tray will be a welcome addition to our travel activities!
